Haldwani: Outrage broke out in Haldwani after the Supreme Court acquitted the accused in the 2014 “Nanhi Pari” murder case in Shishmahal. On Sunday, hundreds of residents took to the streets, demanding the death penalty for the accused.

Local artists including Shweta Mahra, Inder Arya, and Rakesh Khanwal, along with several protestors, attempted to take out a rally from Buddha Park. When police tried to stop them, clashes erupted between the two sides. Despite resistance, demonstrators jumped the gates and marched in a procession up to the SDM Court.
Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh also joined the protestors, while several social, political, and student organizations extended their support. Protestors alleged that justice had been denied to the daughter of Uttarakhand and asserted that the child’s killer must be awarded the death penalty at all costs.
Amid the charged atmosphere, heavy police deployment was made across the area to maintain law and order.
