HALDWANI – After the Supreme Court acquitted the accused in the 2014 “Nanhi Pari” murder case in Haldwani’s Shishmahal area, massive outrage broke out in the city. On Sunday, hundreds of people took to the streets demanding the death penalty for the accused. Local artists Shweta Mahra, Inder Arya, and Rakesh Khanwal, along with several protestors, attempted to take out a rally from Buddha Park. A clash erupted between police and the crowd when officials tried to stop them. Despite resistance, protestors scaled the gates and marched in a procession towards the SDM court.

During the protest, Haldwani MLA Sumit Hridayesh also joined the agitators. Several social, political, and student organizations extended their support to the march. Demonstrators alleged that justice for Uttarakhand’s daughter had been denied and demanded nothing less than the death penalty for the child’s killer.
